Starting work camps in New Countries


This is one of the biggest missions of NVDA since its beginning and in 8 years efforts between 1997 and 2007, 12 countries + area have started international workcamps by NVDA members!

2-2-1: West and South Asia
Iran
NVDA member, YFK, organized 2 national workcamps in 17 Feb. - 02 Mar. and 21 Mar. - 02 Apr. 2007. It was not easy to organize international workcamps due to the political situation, but YFK and NICE have been seeking for the pilot workcamp when it will be possible. SIW Netherlands have made a contact with YFK. GSM Turkey has also interest.

Syria
In cooperation with SCI, JAFRA organized pilot workcamp in 2003 that was opened internationally in 2005 and they will do 4 workcamps in the summer of 2007.
* YAP made a study trip in 2006 to Jordan and Lebanon.

Pakistan
SCI started workcamps some years ago.

Sri Lanka
FSL and IWO organized a special workcamp in December 2006 with a local NGO, See Lanka. In 2007, FSL organized 9 workcamps with local municipality to have a children crises center.

Bhutan
There was a participant in UNESCO Asian Youth Forum hosted by KNCU in Jun. 2007 and Secretariat & President made contact with them who were interested to join the 7th TNW.


2-2-2: South East Asia & Pacific
Laos
KNCU has been organizing a special workcamps since 2000 as AVAN (Asia Voluntary Action Network) including Feb. 2006 and 2007. They have completed construction of the youth center.
KNCUfd like to make software e.g. English course by 2 years LTV and also plan to invite the local committee specially formed for this project to NVDA events such as TNW.

Malaysia
NICE has been organizing international
workcamps since 2004 and supporting a new NGO, MOVE (Malaysian Organization for Volunteers Exchange). NICE expects that MOVE will have full time staff members and run independently possibly from 2009.
They have two projects (4 times a year in each), teaching to slow learners in the Special School near KL and helping rural development in the mountain village of Sarawak, Borneo island. They also joined AEYVE (Asia Europe Young Volunteers Exchange) 2007 by CCIVS.

Cambodia
GW organized international workcamps
from 2005 to 2006, but due to lack of numbers of international volunteers, it stopped since the beginning of 2006.
* NICE organized workcamps with KYDO (Khumer Youth Development Organization) which is one of founding members of NVDA in 1998-2000, but the project was stopped by change of director and communication difficulties.

Singapore
DJ hosted a bilateral workcamp with SBL in Dec. 06 - Jan.07. A contact person from Singapore is interested to start organize international workcamps there.

Burnei
There was a participant in the first NAEV Conference in Vietnam, Jun. 2006.

Vanuatu
IVP organized the first workcamp in Sep. 2006 to complete construction of a school, painting, etc. They did it again in 2007 are were interested to join the 7th TNW though they have given up by a financial reason.

Fiji
NICE co-organized workcamps in 2002-04, but the project has been stopping since the local organization (FIVE) has lack of human resources.


2-2-3: Central & North East Asia
Taiwan
VYA (Vision Youth Action) which YVA, founded in 02, is an educational and cultural youth NGO. Kai (NICE) visited them in Nov. 2006 and agreed with the contract to send NVDA volunteers from Taiwan together.
NICE and YVA co-organized the first international workcamp in Aug. 2007 in a small town named Taishi to make funny painting on the walls by Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese volunteers. VYA became a member of NVDA in Dec. 2007.

Kyrgystan
A youth NGO, LEADERS, was founded in 2005 and organized 2 international workcamps each in Jul.-Aug. 2006 and 2007 mainly for the orphanage and protection of a mountain. They joined the 4th Annual Meeting and has interest to join NVDA!!

Tazikstan
IIVEP started international workcamps in 2005 in strong cooperation with SCI and has interest to join NVDA. They organized 2 workcamps in Jun.-Aug. 2007 for renovation and environmental protection.
